What is Masik Shivaratri?
Masik Shivaratri(मासिक शिवरात्रि) means "Monthly Night of Shiva." It occurs every month on Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi (14th day of the waning moon), dedicated to Lord Shiva's cosmic consciousness and transformative power.
The most sacred aspect is the night vigil (jagran), where devotees stay awake throughout the night performing prayers, chanting mantras, and meditating. The midnight period, known as Nishita Kaal, is considered the most powerful time for Shiva worship.
Nishita Kaal - The Sacred Midnight
Nishita Kaal is the midnight period lasting approximately 48 minutes. During this time, the cosmic energy is at its peak, and prayers offered to Lord Shiva are believed to be most effective for spiritual awakening and karmic purification.
Maha Shivaratri - The Great Night
Among all monthly Shivaratris, Maha Shivaratri(falling in Magha month) is the most sacred. It marks the night of Shiva's cosmic dance and his marriage to Parvati, offering supreme spiritual significance and transformational benefits.
