Calculating muhurat timings...
Panchaka Rahita is a muhurta quality check from classical Vedic electional astrology. The day from one sunrise to the next is segmented using four running panchang elements — tithi, vara, nakshatra, and lagna. Periods that fall under one of the five Panchakas (Mrityu, Agni, Raja, Chora, Roga) are to be avoided for new beginnings; every other period is Panchaka Rahita, meaning free of Panchaka affliction and favourable.
The five Panchakas are traditionally linked with specific risks: Mrityu with danger, Agni with fire, Raja with unfavourable results, Chora with theft or fraud, and Roga with health troubles. Activities started while a Panchaka is running are believed to meet obstacles or losses, so classical texts recommend deferring important beginnings until a Panchaka Rahita window opens.
The numbers of the current tithi, vara, nakshatra, and lagna are summed and the total is divided by 9. The remainder fixes the period quality — remainders 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8 produce the five Panchakas, while 0, 3, 5, and 7 are Panchaka Rahita (good).
*Period boundaries follow the running lagna, so segment durations vary by date and location.
Muhurta Shastra evaluates many factors — tithi, vara, nakshatra, yoga, karana, and lagna — before fixing an auspicious moment. The Panchaka check is one of the quickest and most widely used filters: a moment that is Panchaka Rahita clears a basic threshold of acceptability, while Panchaka-afflicted moments are set aside. Use this tool together with Choghadiya, Hora, and Rahu Kaal for a well-rounded daily timing decision.

When tithi, vara, nakshatra, and lagna numbers sum to a remainder of 1, 2, 4, 6, or 8 (divided by 9), the period carries a Panchaka and is best avoided for new beginnings.
Panchaka Rahita (पंचक रहित) is a Vedic muhurta quality check that segments the day from sunrise to next sunrise using tithi, vara, nakshatra, and lagna. Periods marked Mrityu, Agni, Raja, Chora, or Roga Panchaka are avoided for new beginnings; all other periods are Panchaka Rahita and considered favourable for starting important activities.
