General / SmartaSat, Apr 17, 2027Sun, Apr 18, 202712:23 AM - 2:12 AMGeneral observance follows the Ekadashi tithi at local sunrise. Break after local sunrise and after Hari Vasara ends.
Vaishnava / ISKCON-styleSat, Apr 17, 2027Sun, Apr 18, 202712:23 AM - 2:12 AMVaishnava observance matches the General date because Ekadashi is clear before Arunodaya. Break after local sunrise and after Hari Vasara ends.

Why dates can differ

Ekadashi fasting is decided from local sunrise, not only from when the tithi begins. Vaishnava calendars also check Arunodaya, the period before sunrise, so Dashami overlap or an Ekadashi spanning two sunrises can move the observance to the next day.

Vrat Katha (Sacred Story)

The Gandharva king Lalit and his wife Lalita were separated due to a curse and suffered in different realms. Sage Narada advised Lalita to observe Kamada Ekadashi to fulfill her desire of reuniting with her husband.

Lalita observed the fast with complete devotion, staying awake all night and worshipping Lord Vishnu. She wished only for reunion with her beloved husband and his liberation from the curse.
